A SURPRISE SHOUTOUT IN PRIMARK, UK
I was just wandering through Primark in Southampton minding my business trying to decide if I really needed another hoodie (I didn’t… but I probably would’ve bought it anyway) when something completely unexpected happened. It was one of those slow quiet shopping moments where you feel like a background character in your own day.
Then I heard a voice behind me.
“Excuse me are you Muthoni the girl who works at sea?”
I turned around ready to say, “Oh sorry, did I drop something?” but instead I found a girl staring at me with the biggest brightest smile like she had just spotted Beyoncé in the clearance section. For a second, I genuinely thought she had confused me with someone else.
But nope. She meant me.
She told me she follows my TikTok content and that it motivates her every single day. She said she watches my videos before work before studying whenever she needs a boost. Then she dropped the line that nearly made me melt right there between the jumpers and tote bags.
“My sister is joining maritime school in the UK because of you. She wants to join the ships one day.”
I felt my whole chest warm up. I was trying so hard not to get emotional because imagine crying in Primark over your own TikTok videos. But honestly hearing that something I filmed on my phone had helped someone find a dream… that hit different.
We talked for a bit. She told me how her sister had been unsure about her future and how she wanted something meaningful and adventurous. Then she found my videos. She saw the lifestyle the discipline the growth the world beyond the shore. Suddenly she had a direction.
I walked out of Primark that day with no new clothes but with something way better
A reminder that even the smallest things we do can ripple into someone else’s life in the most beautiful, unexpected ways.
